October 25, 1984 marked a day when a truly talented girl was born without whom I think we couldn't imagine current popmusic world! You may love her, you may hate her but we all know her - it's Katy Perry!
Now what threw me to talk about her is not only her music. I've learned in the past weeks that you can't understand the artist without knowing the background, the story behind the music and going deep into their work, trying to see the inspiration. In Katy's case, I must say - I was never a fan of popmusic and listened to it only as much came from the radio. However, my mind has changed. Even though I was supposed to do some office work, I couldn't get my eyes off her videos that are not simply music - they are art. What has made Katy so phenomenal in my opinion is her commitment and love towards what she does. She inspires people! Every video, every song is a piece of her soul that is put into a story - a story that is presented to us through lyrics and video. If it has seemed as if her songs are empty, you have probably not listened to them. Heard, yes, but not listened. One moment she can be an old lady reminding her past, the other moment a vampire, a geeky-girl or a fabulous vintage lady. Her genuine nature yet strong presence is what makes people love her, not to even mention a powerful voice that she uses not only for popmusic but taking bits and pieces from her gospel-singing background and mixing it with rock elements (if you listen to some of her early songs, you see the rock part I'm talking about - she reminds me even a bit of Joan Jett!).
When it comes to her style, it's even more versatile than her music and voice! You all remember her blue high ponytail or peppermint-swirl dress. She's bold and not afraid to experiment. After her success she became a true sex-goddess (having even said to be the sexiest women of the year) but now her style has become much more mature and feminine - just like her music. She still amazes people with looking like a bombshell but now she does it in a very mature way - like on the last EMA's her vintage inspired light green dress surprised everybody with it's simplicity. Katy knows how to make a statement!
From music to her style, I admire her every step on the way! She has really got to me with inspiring and giving so much strength - the same strength we all have. Katy herself has said: "I like to go out there looking like a strong woman, because I am strong. But I am also a woman who goes through all kinds of problems and highs and lows". Her experiences translate to lyrics and by that not only gives she power to other women, I think it has made herself a better woman - a better artist, and we can all see it now from her appearance. I think we're gonna hear her "roar" a lot in the future! :)
What do you think about Katy Perry? Do you like her work?
