DIY Key Necklace

Hello lovelies & Happy easter!

It has been a while since my last DIY, since March turned out to be rather uninspirational month and I had more motivation to do outfit posts than DIY projects. I do have many ideas for upcoming ones so I definitely hope to bring more of these posts to you! It's always such a rush to find some inspirational project, then do it yourself and see the result to be quite nice :) With this one, it was exactly like that - I saw a tutorial about it & immediately I said to Rauno: "Do you have any spare keys that you don't need anymore?" Haha, so I attacked his key chain and took some that I could work with. Easy as that! Before I can show you my interpretation of this little necklace, I'd love to share with you the source of my inspiration. Here are the tutorials that inspired me!

Firstly, you need some keys that you don't use anymore! Trust me, now whenever I pass the store where they make keys, I instantly think how many necklaces I could make of them! I'm a keymonster, for real!   These keys are from Rauno's high school days and were his school locker keys. :)

Then you need a little selection of nail polishes. For me, nail polishes ain't for nails only anymore! Now I tend to use them .. well pretty much in every place where some painting is needed to be done. I guess what appeals me is the rich selection of colors, the shine, the durability and the comfort of painting with it - little brush is so comfy for detail work. And - you always have some nail polishes lying around the house!

Firstly, I did a bottom layer with one more simple color like black and white. I didn't like the original color of the keys so that's the main reason I did this layer. If you have these amazing vintage keys, then don't hesitate NOT doing a base layer because that vintage color adds a lot of uniqueness to the key. However, if you do decide to do base layer, make sure to do it twice because one time is definitely not enough to cover it properly.

And then there's only left decorating it the way you want! Let your imagination flow and just paint it :) I've always loved this silver glitter nail polish and therefore I did one key that simply - I just covered the black one with glitter. It turned out amazing and it's my favorite one of these! But you can use more colors, make some stripes, spots or whatever you like :)  PS: Let the base dry properly so it wouldn't be sticky! And also be very very careful with turning it around because a big issue for me was that I didn't wait long enough with doing the other side and it started to stick to the paper.

There you go - you now have a bunch of key necklaces! You can use a store-bought chain and put it through the key but I used one old simple necklace I had and just put the key to it. Now I can't wait to find/buy some more keys so I could do more of these and vary them in my outfits! I think they look so cool and you know what's the best part? It doesn't cost a lot and all the painting takes about 5 minutes!

What do you think about this DIY and the idea of using keys as accessories? I really think it's such a bold and unique idea and adds a lot of detail to your outfits. People will be very curious about what's the key for ;)  Share your thoughts with me in the comments below. <3
