DIY Statement Rings from Buttons

Hello everybody! <3

As you might have noticed, I have a tiny obsession with rings, especially with big, bold and unique rings. We must admit that though I find these amazing and cheap ones all the time, firstly there is NEVER such thing as too many rings for me and secondly - they still cost quite a lot. So, a while ago I found a picture in Pinterest which showed the idea I'm showing you today. Since then I've been dying to make rings that way and I'm so so so happy with the outcome of the DIY! I really think it's the best project I've done since and I guarantee I'm going to make at least 1-2 rings every month, since it's cheap and so easy to make them yourself.

So - here are the things you need for the project.  The main things you need are buttons or flat beads and some lovely ring bases which you can find from any jewellery/crafts supply store, mine are from this store. Of course you can always order the supplies from the internet or hey - maybe even cut off beautiful buttons from an old coat you don't like anymore. Opportunities are endless!  Also, if you don't feel comfortable with tongs, you could use flat beads instead because the outcome is as beautiful as with buttons - the ring with red button is actually made with red flat-bottomed bead.

Here is a little close-up shot to the buttons I used. I just love the one with white pearl!
And these are the bases I used. I chose the bases according to my buttons so they'd fit perfectly, but oh my gosh how many choices there are with making them and choosing the bases! The bases can be very small too, as long as you feel comfy with them.

So, since you need the button to be flat, you need to get rid of the loop behind the button. For doing that you need the tongs. Just cut of the loop so it would be flat :) I used R's skilful hands for doing that, you know - he's a crafty guy. But it's not hard to do it yourself. Also I suggest you to polish the area you cut so it would be as smooth and flat as it's possible. :)

Then choose the button for the base that fits well. :) I found the perfect match with these two!

Put a bit of glue on the button (or on the base, depends on how you feel comfortable) and press them together. Hold them strongly together for a minute or so, so they'd stick together perfectly. Let the rings dry at least over night!

And voila - you got yourself statement rings that NO ONE has! They are beautiful, unique and whenever someone asks: "Wow, where did you get these rings?!" , you can reply proudly: "I made these myself!"

What do you think about this idea? I can't wait to wear them in my outfits and maybe even see some made by my lovely followers! Let me know your thoughts xoxo
